Lactalis to Expand Local Dairy Production in Brazil by 30%
FRANCE - French dairy company Lactalis intends to increase its productivity at its milk plants in Brazil by 30 per cent within the next year.

European Supermarket Magazine reports that Guilherme Portella, Lactalis Brazil's director of external communication, told Diário Comércio Indústria & Servicos that the company currently has 16,000 producers in Brazil. Half of these are in Rio Grande do Sul, and 2,000 are part of Lactaleite - a company loyalty programme created in April this year.
Lactalis currently captures 1.6 billion litres of milk per year across the country, with productivity of its suppliers ranging from 200 to 600 litres per day.
Growth Investment
In order to increase the number of participants in the Lactaleite programme, the dairy company has started offering technical assistance, competitive inputs and guidance.
Lactalis also invested 10 million reais (€2.66 million) in the modernisation of its Teutônia plant to produce a new line of premium butter under the Presidént brand. The plant has a production capacity of 600 tonnes per month, and the first batch of the product should be on store shelves by November.
The company operates in Brazil under the brands Boa Nata, Poços de Caldas, Santa Rosa, Balkis, DoBon, Cotochés, Elegê and Batavo.
