Cattle Transport Licenses Temporarily Suspended in Sri Lanka

SRI LANKA - President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed to temporarily suspend issuing of licenses to transport cattle.

Incidents of illegal transporting of cattle are rapidly increasing and these activities have a huge impact upon the dairy industry as well as agricultural needs.

Accordingly, until an appropriate process is implemented, issuing of licenses to transport cattle will be temporarily suspended.

At present, the issuing of licenses to transport cattle is being handled by the District Secretary.

Various serious accidents and incidents resulting in fatality were reported from different parts of the country while illegally transporting cattle.

A tragic incident reported from Bulankulama, Anuradhapura on 26 October where two young women died in an accident.
