Indonesia accredits five US halal-certifying bodies
Mandatory halal labelling law comes into force in OctoberThe government of Indonesia listed five US halal-certify bodies on its website as fully accredited to issue halal certificates for US products destined for the Indonesian market last month, according to a recent US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Global Agricultural Information Network (GAIN) report.
The accreditation of the five certifying bodies is vital to providing US suppliers with as many halal certification service providers as possible before enforcement of Indonesia’s mandatory halal certification law for most food and beverage products begins. The law is set to begin on October 17, 2024.
US producers seeking to send halal-eligible products to Indonesia should apply for halal certification either directly with the Indonesian government or through an accredited US certifying body.
Mandatory halal certification does not apply to non-eligible products, such as those containing pork, alcohol, and other forbidden ingredients.
