We have 4 new features this week: Milk Yields Have More Impact on GHG Emission than Lactiation Length Improving milk yield has a far greater effect on reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHGE) from UK dairy herds than extending lactation length – findings from a recent study, carried out by scientists in Edinburgh and London. Clinical Findings and Treatment in Cattle with Caecal Dilatation Caecal dilatation can usually be diagnosed in cattle based on clinical findings and treated conservatively or surgically, according to researchers at the University of Zurich, with hypocalcaemia the most common lab finding. They recommend surgery in cases of suspected caecal torsion or retroflexion. Impacts of Farming Intensification on Wildlife and Ecosystem Health At a recent meeting, FAO experts voiced concern that wildlife species are increasingly at risk from the expansion and intensification of agricultural production, which appropriates habitat and exposes wildlife and livestock to one another’s diseases.
